Symantec's new approach to integrating cybersecurity tools was presented by Joost Nienhuis, Channel Technical Director, Endpoint Security, Enterprise Security Group, Broadcom, in his presentation titled 'Pick Your Fighter: CBX vs. Today’s Top Threats' during the recent 6th Cyber Security Conference.
Nienhuis referred to the fundamental change in extortion methods, presenting the capabilities of the new Symantec CBX platform and its connection to the broader Symantec and Carbon Black ecosystem.
Modern threats have not only become faster, but now rely on malware-free extortion, credential theft, adaptability through artificial intelligence, and abuse of legitimate system tools.
This tactic allows attackers to hide behind secure applications, bypassing traditional systems that look for known virus fingerprints. As a typical example of this new threat, he noted the activities of the ShinyHunters group, which recorded 1,548 victims, and the Qilin group, with 1,218 victims, which invade networks through vulnerabilities and RDP to steal data without leaving traces of malicious code.
At the same time, he presented a comparison of traditional EDR systems with the new approach, with references to real solutions for customers and the possibility of unifying security operations. Classic tools present gaps in the network, require a large number of personnel and only offer fragmented and reactive updates.
In contrast, the Symantec CBX platform offers ecosystem-wide predictive digital intelligence, a single management console, and automated policy enforcement. Through a single architecture, it connects endpoint, network, and data loss prevention data, providing complete visibility into every stage of the attack chain, from initial access to final data exfiltration in the cloud.
In his presentation, he also focused on the financial and operational benefits of the platform, highlighting the importance of a unified defence strategy against modern threats. The integration of tools eliminates complex interconnections between different vendors and reduces infrastructure costs, while the use of machine learning eliminates up to 95% of false alarms, reducing analyst fatigue.
Given that the average cost of a data breach in the US is $11.5 million, the Symantec CBX platform achieves, he added, more than double the return on investment compared to traditional SIEM systems and improves threat detection time by 65% to 70%, ultimately offering a comprehensive XDR solution.
