Cyprus and the United Kingdom have agreed on the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of shipping, during a meeting in London between Cyprus Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis and her British counterpart, UK Maritime Minister Keir Mather.
In a statement to CNA, Hadjimanolis said that during the bilateral meeting on 15 September, the two sides agreed on the next steps for implementing the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the two governments. The two ministers also exchanged views on the challenges currently facing global shipping and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between Cyprus and the United Kingdom in the maritime sector.
Hadjimanolis concluded a two-day working visit to London, during which she also participated in the 18th Annual Capital Link Shipping & Marine Services Forum.
The Deputy Minister and her British counterpart took part, alongside Dr Nikolas Tsakos, in a panel discussion focusing on issues affecting the international shipping community.
Speaking to CNA, Hadjimanolis noted that Capital Link provides an important platform bringing together governments and the private sector to exchange views on developments and challenges facing global shipping.
During her stay in the British capital, the Deputy Minister also held a series of meetings with senior executives of shipping companies, aimed at strengthening cooperation and further promoting the Cyprus registry and Cyprus as an international shipping centre.
