In a post on Facebook , the now former -now- Chairman of the Cyprus Securities & Exchange Commission (CySEC), Dr. George Theocharides, has taken stock of his six-year presence at the helm of CySEC making particular reference to the major changes that marked his six-year tenure.
More specefically, in the post, Theocharides says, "A few days have passed since I was informed that I will no longer continue at CySEC. Thus, with my final post as Chair of the organization, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to all the people that I collaborated with during these last six years - industry participants, service providers, vice-chairs, board members, government employees and officials, members of parliament, ESMA and IOSCO colleagues etc, but above all to the people of #CySEC."
He continued that, "Most credit for the establishment of #CySEC as a strong, credible and forward-thinking organization goes to its people. I have a huge level of admiration for their expertise, knowledge and work ethic. I also want to thank the people that entrusted me in the first place to lead this organization."
"To summarize the three major changes that defined my tenure," Theocharides goes on to note, "I would argue that these are:
Effective and outcome-based supervision
Enhancement of our digital technologies and expertise, and preparation of the organization for the digital market and economy
Establishment of Cyprus as a credible and well regulated financial services jurisdiction."
"Finally, I would like to warmly congratulate the new Management Team, George Karatzias and Loukas Lagoudis for their appointments. They are taking over the leadership of an organization that is healthy, mature and vital for the growth of the sector. They should build on what has been achieved thus far and I wish them best of luck in their roles," Theocharides concludes.
