Technology doesn’t need borders, it needs the right ecosystem

What does a small country really need to play a big role on the global technology map? Talent? Capital? Infrastructure? Innovation? Or an ecosystem that gives people a reason not only to come, but to stay?

Liudmila Marochkina, CEO of SPORTSOFT, brings this very conversation to the Beyond Borders Stage at INSPIRE 2026, as part of Tech Without Borders: Turning Cyprus into a Global Technology and Innovation Hub.

Her own journey into technology was not the obvious one.

With more than 15 years of experience across marketing, corporate governance, law and project management, she did not begin her career as an engineer or developer. What brought her into the technology sector was the realisation that technology can determine how quickly a business grows, how effectively it operates and how successfully it can solve complex problems.

Today, she leads SPORTSOFT, a Cyprus-based technology company developing custom digital platforms, AI integrations, no-code solutions and integrated digital ecosystems, with activity across sectors including sports, education, events and sustainability.

For Liudmila, however, technology alone is not enough.

The real competitive advantage lies in people and in creating the right environment for them to innovate.

And this is where the bigger conversation about Cyprus begins.

For the island to become a genuine international technology and innovation hub, tax incentives and a strategic geographical location are not enough. It needs international teams, access to specialised talent, education, infrastructure, quality of life and a business environment that enables companies to think globally from day one.

At Tech Without Borders, Liudmila will discuss how to build and manage teams without borders, how to create a culture of innovation and how to transform technology from just another tool into a genuine driver of business growth.

Most importantly, she will look ahead: what should Cyprus do next?

Because the challenge is not simply to attract more technology companies.

It is to create an ecosystem that makes them want to build their future here.
