The BoC Fintech Hackathon 7.0 is here! | Build The Future!

Bank of Cyprus is organising the 7th Innovation Marathon for application development, BoC Fintech Hackathon 7.0, which focuses on implementing proposals and digital applications around Fintech, while also combining themes such as Social Innovation, Cybersecurity, and Smart Cities, using Artificial Intelligence, with the main goal of promoting entrepreneurship.

The BoC Fintech Hackathon 7.0 will take place on November 27-29, 2026, in person at the IDEA Innovation Center, Nicosia.

Who can participate:

The BoC Fintech Hackathon 7.0 is open to developers, startups, professionals, students, and anyone interested in taking part and actively contributing to the development of applications that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growth of services and applications to improve everyday life and advance the delivery of services to everyone.

The goal of the BoC Fintech Hackathon 7.0 is to create innovative solutions, up to the stage of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), with a view to future development into fully functional applications.

Through its upgraded open banking APIs (sandbox) and SDK (Software Development Kit), Bank of Cyprus will provide technological support for the teams' applications, enabling them to incorporate innovative capabilities such as making payments and developing services that securely leverage transaction data.

 

The prizes

Teams that stand out will receive significant cash and other prizes, which you can see below:

 

  • 1st prize €7.000
  • 2nd prize €4.000
  • 3rd prize €2.000

 

An additional €2.000 for the best use of the Jinius APIs, as well as a €1.000 prize from the Municipality of Nicosia for the best Smart City solution.

The applications developed by the teams can address the following themes in a suitable business and technological manner, without these being binding:

 

  • AI for Good: Using artificial intelligence for the financial inclusion of vulnerable groups, education, and fraud protection.
  • Fintech for Smart Cities: Digital payment solutions and smart contracts for smart urban infrastructure and public services.
  • Open Banking & Embedded Finance: Integrating financial services into everyday platforms through open banking APIs.
  • Fintech for SMEs & Entrepreneurship: Smart financial tools to support and grow small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • Cybersecurity & Trust in Fintech: Advanced security and authentication technologies for trustworthy digital financial transactions.
  • Sustainable Finance & Green Banking: Financial tools that promote environmental sustainability and the green transition.
  • RegTech & Compliance Automation: Automation of regulatory compliance and risk assessment using AI.
  • Inclusive Fintech & Financial Wellbeing: Accessible financial services and wellbeing tools for everyone.
  • Energy Fintech & Smart Grid Finance: Financial solutions for energy transactions, renewable sources, and smart grids.
  • Fintech for Insurance (InsurTech): Digitizing insurance services with AI for smart pricing and claims management.
