Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, as well as the progress of the implementation of the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection, were at the center of the meeting between the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the French President, Emmanuel Macron, in Paris.
The tete-a-tete between the two leaders took place with a broad agenda, which included issues of bilateral and European interest, as well as issues concerning stability and infrastructure in the wider region.
Particular emphasis was placed on the next steps for the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection, following the agreement for the entry of the investment company Meridiam as a majority shareholder in Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), which, based on the design, has undertaken the development of the project.
During the meeting, Mitsotakis and Macron exchanged views on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, developments around Iran and the Middle East.
The Greek Prime Minister also informed the French President about the results of the trilateral meeting between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt, which took place the previous day in El Alamein.
The impact of the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, particularly with regard to energy costs, was also on the table. Mitsotakis underlined the need for coordinated initiatives at the European level, aimed at addressing the impacts on the economy and consumers.
The two leaders also discussed the initiatives of Greece and France to restrict access to social media by children under 15 years of age.
The issue has been high on the European agenda, with Emmanuel Macron recently writing a letter to the President of the European Commission, requesting the implementation of a corresponding restriction at the European Union level.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis' visit to the French capital took place on the occasion of his participation in the International Space Summit.
