Cyprus’ seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 0.8% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the previous quarter, while employment in terms of the number of persons rose by 0.5%, according to data published by Eurostat on Monday.
On an annual basis, Cyprus' GDP was up by 3.3% compared with the second quarter of 2025, while employment increased by 1.6%.
The quarterly growth rate of the Cypriot economy stood at 0.8% in the second quarter, up from 0.5% in the first quarter of 2026. This followed increases of 1.2% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 0.8% in the third quarter.
On an annual basis, growth in Cyprus accelerated to 3.3% in the second quarter, from 3.0% in the first quarter. Growth had stood at 4.2% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 3.5% in the third quarter.
As regards employment, the 0.5% increase in the second quarter followed no change in the first quarter of the year. Employment had risen by 0.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and by 0.5% in the third quarter.
Compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year, employment in Cyprus increased by 1.6% in the second quarter, compared with growth of 2.0% in both the first quarter of 2026 and the fourth quarter of 2025. In the third quarter of 2025, the annual increase stood at 1.4%.
EU GDP up 0.7%
At EU level, seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 0.7% in the second quarter compared with the first quarter, while in the euro area the increase was 0.6%. In the first quarter of 2026, GDP had risen by 0.1% in the EU and had remained unchanged in the euro area.
On an annual basis, GDP increased by 1.4% in the EU and by 1.2% in the euro area. In the previous quarter, the corresponding growth rates were 0.9% and 0.6%.
Among Member States, Ireland recorded the largest quarterly increase in GDP, at 10.2%, followed by Slovenia at 1.8% and Lithuania at 1.7%. Austria was the only Member State to record a decline of 0.1%.
