Turnover increased in four of the six main services and transport sectors in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the corresponding quarter of 2025, with professional, scientific and technical activities recording the largest increase, according to data released by CySTAT.
Specifically, the turnover index for professional, scientific and technical activities rose by 3.4%, while transport and storage and information and communication increased by 2.1% each. Real estate activities recorded an increase of 1.6%.
By contrast, turnover fell by 3.1% in accommodation and food service activities and by 2.2% in administrative and support service activities.
In the first half of 2026, professional, scientific and technical activities recorded the largest increase, at 3.5%, followed by transport and storage at 2.8%, real estate activities at 2.1%, and information and communication at 1.3%. Declines were recorded in administrative and support service activities (-1.0%) and accommodation and food service activities (-0.7%).
In transport and storage, the increase was mainly driven by land transport, which rose by 8.3%, while warehousing and support activities increased by 1.9%. By contrast, water transport and air transport declined by 5.9% and 5.8%, respectively.
Within information and communication, information service activities recorded a notable 57.5% increase in turnover. On the other hand, a significant decline of 19.2% was recorded in motion picture, video and television programme production, sound recording and music publishing activities.
Within professional, scientific and technical activities, significant increases were recorded in architectural and engineering activities, at 9.0%, advertising and market research, at 7.2%, and legal and accounting activities, at 4.6%.
In accommodation and food service activities, the decline was mainly due to accommodation services, where turnover fell by 10.1%, while food service activities recorded an increase of 4.5%.
In administrative and support service activities, the largest declines were recorded in travel agency, tour operator and reservation service activities, at 13.8%, and rental and leasing activities, at 9.4%.
