European Council President Antonio Costa will be in Nicosia on September 4 as part of his tour of EU member state capitals, where he will meet with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The visit falls within the second week of President Costa's "Tour des Capitales," through which he meets heads of state and government to discuss the Union's agenda, with emphasis on the next multiannual budget, the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), in order to prepare the ground ahead of upcoming summits and international meetings. During the first week, Costa visited Bratislava, Tallinn, Vilnius, Riga, and Prague.
The second week begins on September 2, with Costa meeting Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, in Luxembourg, while on the same day he will be in Zagreb for a meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, and in Budapest with Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar.
On September 3, meetings are scheduled in Bucharest with the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, in Sofia with Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Rumen Radev, and in Athens with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
On September 4, in addition to the visit to Nicosia -which, according to information from CNA, will take place in the morning- Antonio Costa will also travel to Ljubljana for a meeting with Slovenia's Prime Minister, Janez Janša.
On Saturday, September 5, the President of the European Council will deliver a keynote address on the theme "Europe in the World" as part of the 52nd edition of the Ambrosetti Forum, the annual gathering of political, academic, and business leaders held since 1975.
The programme for the third week of the tour is expected to be announced on Friday, September 4.
