Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides met with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber on Friday to present the country's new national artificial intelligence strategy.
In an announcement, the chamber said Skourides outlined the strategy, which envisages the rollout of AI across the island's shipping sector.
Speaking to CBN, a chamber representative explained that although the strategy is still in its early stages, it will see AI adopted within the shipping industry over the next ten years. Key focus areas include preventive maintenance, governance and the regulatory side of the chamber's operations.
"The plan is ambitious, but with the right cooperation between the chamber and the state -and the necessary political will- it can move beyond being simply an idea," the representative said.
"The Chamber welcomes and supports the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and looks forward to continued cooperation with the Chief Scientist and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy towards its effective implementation," the chamber concluded in an announcement.
