Creating new financing opportunities for farmers, with the aim of implementing investments in the primary sector and strengthening the sustainability of rural communities, are among the priorities, Agriculture Minister Christos Senekis said, in an address at an event held recently in the village of Mamomia, Paphos district.
Senekis referred to the importance of supporting the primary sector and revitalising the countryside, pointing out that the government's goal is to create possibilities for young people to stay in their villages or return and get active.
Senekis referred to the new financing tool for the primary sector, adding that farmers who secure approval for investments through the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy will be able, if they need financing, to address participating banking institutions and secure liquidity on more favorable terms.
The Strategic Plan has a total funding of €454 million, of which €373 million are a European contribution.
Senekis also said that the government is already preparing for the next period as regards the CAP, with the aim of further strengthening the competitiveness and resilience of the primary sector and creating greater prospects for the new generation of producers.
He also made special reference to the LEADER initiative, through which the village of Mamonia participates in the Local Action Group “Paphos Development Company “Aphrodite” LTD”. As he said, approximately €2.8 million have been allocated for this strategy, with the possibility of financing projects and actions that support local development and highlight the culture, history and tradition of the area.
