Eurobank customers accelerate shift to digital as branch transactions fall to 3.5%

Customers of Eurobank Limited appear to be shifting toward digital banking, not only gaining access to digital services but increasingly using them.

This is confirmed by the bank’s own data, obtained and presented by InBusinessNews and CBN, which show that the number of active digital users now exceeds 320,000, up 22 per cent compared with 2024.

Over the past two years, the number of active digital users has risen by almost 22 per cent, reaching 323,000 today, with a steady annual growth rate of 9 per cent, while on average the number of new users increases by 2,150 per month.

Even more striking is the trajectory of transactions carried out via Eurobank’s digital channels, which are growing at a rate exceeding 15 per cent annually.

According to the data, transactions in 2025 increased by 14.5 per cent compared with 2024, while in the first four months of 2026, compared with the same period last year, the increase was 15.3 per cent.

As a result of the use of digital tools, branch usage is declining. According to the data obtained by InBusinessNews and CBN, while in 2024 about 4.7 per cent of transactions were carried out in physical branches, this share has fallen to 3.5 per cent in 2026 (to date), with the majority -over 96 per cent- now being completed via digital channels and ATMs.

As a responsible source at the bank told our website, this trend confirms a deep, structural change in customer behaviour.

At the same time, the shift toward digital banking is accompanied by a gradual move away from cash. In particular, card transactions at points of sale are steadily increasing, reaching 68.5 per cent of all such transactions, compared with 63.9 per cent in 2024.

By contrast, cash withdrawals are declining both in value and in share, indicating a broader shift toward a more “cashless” model, as their proportion fell from 33.7% in 2025 to 31.15 per cent in the first five months of this year.

It is worth noting that the use of ATMs for everyday banking needs has become essentially standard, both for withdrawals and deposits, with the role of branches steadily diminishing.

Although deposits still show greater dependence on the physical network, the trend here is clearly downward.

Specifically, 95 per cent of withdrawals and almost 90 per cent of deposits are now made via ATMs rather than at the bank’s branches.

Overall, the data from Eurobank highlight a new reality in the banking landscape, with customers increasingly trusting digital channels for almost all of their transactions, leading to a redefinition of the role of branches, which are gradually transforming from points of everyday service into spaces for advisory support.
