Cyprus won three more medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, two silver and one bronze, in gymnastics.
Marios Georgiou won two silver medals - one in the parallel bars final, scoring 13.800 points, and one in the horizontal bar with 14.166 points.
The two silver medals follow Georgiou's two gold and five bronze medals he won at previous editions of the Commonwealth Games, a total of nine medals.
In statements, Georgiou said: "The road ahead certainly includes another Olympic cycle. This year there is still the European Championships and the Mediterranean Games. I have a great deal of work ahead of me, but all of it is geared towards the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028."
Georgiou’s first silver medal of the day came around 90 minutes after Neofytos Kyriakou secured bronze in the vault final.
Kyriakou secured bronze with a combined score of 13.733. He received 14.100 for his first vault and 13.366 for his second, finishing level on points with Malaysia’s Muhammad Sharul Aimy. Under the competition’s tie-break rules, however, the Cypriot gymnast was awarded the bronze medal thanks to his higher score on his first vault.
Fellow Cypriot Kyriakos Markides also competed in the vault final, finishing eighth with a total score of 12.649.
Georgiou and Kyriakou earned Cyprus its third, fourth and fifth medals of the Glasgow Games, following the country’s first two medals in athletics.
