The Deputy Ministry of Research announced on Wednesday the launch of a public consultation on the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI), prepared by the National AI Taskforce. All interested parties are invited to submit their comments, suggestions and observations via the “e-Consultation” platform until August 31.
According to the announcement, the strategy constitutes the Republic of Cyprus's comprehensive national policy framework for harnessing the potential of AI. Its vision is that, by 2032, Cyprus will be recognised as a trusted AI hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, a reliable European jurisdiction for the provision of AI-enabled services, and a bridge between the European Union and neighboring regions.
The National AI Taskforce was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers, under the chairmanship of the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology, and comprises 11 members from the public and private sectors, as well as the academic and research community.
As stated in the announcement, the strategy is structured around eight interlinked National Strategic Objectives: establishing Cyprus as a trusted jurisdiction for AI, increasing national productivity through the responsible adoption of AI, developing a strong and inclusive AI ecosystem, transforming public services through the use of AI, developing, attracting and retaining AI skills and talent, ensuring secure, sovereign and interoperable data and infrastructure, strengthening governance, ethics and accountability in all uses of AI, and building sovereign national capabilities through strategic partnerships.
The public consultation is conducted via the government platform “e-Consultation” at the link, where the draft National Strategy is also available.
All views and proposals submitted will be evaluated and, where deemed appropriate, will be incorporated into the final version of the Strategy.
