The District Local Government Organisations (DLGOs also known as EOA) are now fully operational and provide essential services to citizens on a daily basis in the areas of licensing, water supply, sewerage systems and their other areas of responsibility, according to a joint statement issued by the DLGOs' Presidents to mark the second anniversary of their establishment.
Their statement adds that the creation of the DLGOs represents one of the most significant reforms implemented in the public administration of the Republic of Cyprus.
"On the occasion of this second anniversary, we are carrying out a comprehensive assessment of the DLGOs' progress to date, recording their achievements, identifying weaknesses, and determining the necessary changes that should now be promoted," the Presidents of the DLGOs state.
They add that their objective is "to further enhance the services provided to citizens, make greater use of technology and digitalisation, strengthen transparency and accountability, and deliver even faster and higher-quality services."
Furthermore, the Presidents of the DLGOs note that "this journey would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our employees." They also express their gratitude to the members of the Boards, the organisations' management teams, the central government, the municipalities, the communities, and everyone who contributed to the successful implementation of the reform.
They also acknowledge that challenges remain and that there is still room for improvement.
"The reform of local government is an ongoing process that requires continuous evaluation, corrective interventions and the strengthening of institutions, so that these organisations can become even more effective and financially sustainable," they add.
In their joint statement, the Presidents of the DLGOs conclude, "With cooperation, responsibility and a shared vision, we will continue working to ensure that the local government reform delivers to the fullest extent the benefits that Cyprus's citizens deserve."
