TechIsland Connect 14, powered by payabl., recently brought together founders, C-level executives, members, partners, and friends of the Cyprus tech ecosystem.

As the organisation noted in a relevant LinkedIn post, "As one of our guests put it perfectly, it was an evening of “meaningful connections.”

"And that is exactly what TechIsland Connect was created for. A space where our Community can meet, exchange ideas, build trust, and start conversations that move the ecosystem forward," the post continued.

In his remarks, TechIsland Chairman Valentinos Polykarpou reflected on the tech sector’s continued growth, with the sector now contributing 16% of Cyprus’ GDP and supporting almost 80,000 jobs, directly and indirectly. He highlighted the talent needed to sustain this growth, as well as the importance of investing in the skills of future professionals and strengthening tech literacy across education, business, and society at large.

Among other things, Polykarpou noted, "We are now halfway through 2026, and it has already been a very active and meaningful year for TechIsland and for the wider tech sector in Cyprus."

Referring to the STEM for All event together with Women in Tech Cyprus in May, he also noted that the new Cyprus Tech Impact Study, conducted by KPMG Cyprus was presented, pointing out that, "According to the study, tech is now the largest sector of the Cyprus economy, outperforming traditional sectors such as tourism and shipping. It contributes 16% of Cyprus’ GDP and supports almost 80,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly."

Polykarpou noted that, as the sector continues to expand, the need for talent becomes even more important.

"Cyprus now has a strong pool of highly skilled professionals, but if we want to sustain this growth, we need to continue attracting talent, developing local talent, and creating the right conditions for people to build their careers here," he said.

The TechIsland Chairman also mentioned the organisation's participation in the Minds in Cyprus initiative in London earlier this week, saying, "This is an important initiative, and we were glad to be there, speaking with talented Cypriot professionals who are exploring the possibility of returning home."

"This connects directly with the broader message of STEM for All," Polykarpou went on to underlined, "Technology is no longer just a skill. It is literacy. It is becoming part of how every sector operates, how every company grows, and how every professional remains relevant. This is why it is so important to bring technology closer to education, to businesses, and to society more broadly. We need to make sure that people of all ages and backgrounds have access to the knowledge, tools, and opportunities they need to participate in the future economy."

He went on to say that, as TechIsland, the organisation will continue working with our members, with the government, and with the wider ecosystem to support this direction.
