“Minds in Cyprus" launches in Birmingham to attract Cypriot talent back home

The first step of the new phase of the “Minds in Cyprus” initiative took place on Monday in Birmingham, where the first roundtable discussion was held with strong participation as part of efforts to encourage the repatriation and utilisation of Cypriot talent abroad.

More than 40 Cypriot professionals and executives from international companies operating in the greater Birmingham area attended the event. Participants were given a detailed briefing on the initiative’s objectives, the professional prospects emerging in Cyprus, and the incentives available to those considering returning to the country.

The discussion focused on employment opportunities and career advancement prospects within the Cypriot economy, labour market needs, and the challenges faced by Cypriots abroad when deciding whether to return.

Representing the government, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki attended the event, presenting the vision and goals of “Minds in Cyprus.” She highlighted the importance of reconnecting the country with its highly skilled diaspora and outlined the tax and other incentives already in place to make returning to Cyprus more attractive for professionals and scientists.

On behalf of Invest Cyprus, Vice President Yagos Hadjiyiannis spoke about the strong performance of the Cypriot economy in recent years, noting that the development of new sectors and the expansion of the business ecosystem are creating growing demand for specialised talent.

Philokypros Roussounides, Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), outlined the Chamber’s role in connecting the business community with the labour market and supporting initiatives that enhance talent attraction and staffing of Cypriot enterprises.

Officials from the Tax Department were also present, responding to specialised questions from attendees regarding the new tax incentive framework for repatriation, providing practical guidance on procedures and benefits under the relevant legislation.

The Birmingham discussion marked the opening event of the “Minds in Cyprus” programme in the United Kingdom and served as a platform for meaningful dialogue between the state, business stakeholders, and Cypriot professionals abroad.

The initiative culminates on Tuesday with a major career fair event in London, where Cypriots living abroad will have the opportunity to engage directly with representatives of Cypriot companies and explore concrete career opportunities in Cyprus.
