Hermes Airports welcomed Air Astana’s inaugural flight from Astana to Larnaka Airport on Tuesday, 2 June, marking the launch of a new direct air connection between Cyprus and Kazakhstan.
The new route will operate twice weekly, every Tuesday and Saturday. In addition, from 4 June 2026, the airline will commence direct flights from Almaty to Larnaca, operating every Thursday and Sunday. Flights will be operated using Airbus A321LR aircraft and are scheduled to continue at least until September. Flight duration from Astana to Larnaca is approximately 5 hours and 40 minutes, while flights from Almaty to Larnaca take approximately 6 hours and 5 minutes.
Upon arrival at Larnaka Airport, passengers on the inaugural flight received a warm welcome from Hermes Airports and were presented with commemorative gift boxes containing local Cypriot products and souvenirs, offering them a first taste of Cypriot hospitality.
To mark the departure of the first flight from Larnaca to Kazakhstan, Hermes Airports also offered passengers sweets and refreshing beverages. It is worth noting that the flight carried the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, along with members of the Government, on the first official visit by a President of Cyprus to Kazakhstan, the world’s ninth-largest country by land area.
The new air service further strengthens Cyprus’ connectivity, providing additional travel options while contributing to the growth of tourism and the development of business relations between the two countries.
