Philokypros Roussounides: Kazakhstan is a rapidly growing economy with prospects - The goal of the business mission to Astana

A business mission to Kazakhstan, led by President Nikos Christodoulides, with the aim of strengthening economic and investment relations between Astana and Nicosia, as well as promoting Cyprus as a reliable business and investment hub in the wider region, is being organised by the Cyprus Presidency, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI), Invest Cyprus and the Cyprus-Kazakhstan Business Association.

As part of the mission, in which more than 20 Cypriot companies (around 40 people) will participate, a Business Forum will be held, among other things, within the framework of which more than 50 B2B meetings have been scheduled.

The Forum will be addressed by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the CCCI, Stavros Stavrou, the Chairman of the Foreign Trade Chamber of Kazakhstan (Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan), Karimsakov Murat Ratovich, the Chairman of Invest Cyprus, Evgenios Evgeniou, and the Chairman of Kazakh Invest, while the main presentation will be made by the Deputy Minister of Research, Nicodemos Damianou.

The importance of the mission

In his statements to InBusinessNews and CBN in view of the business mission that will take place between 2-4 June, the Secretary General of the CCCI, Philokypros Roussounides, emphasised that the Chamber approaches the mission to Kazakhstan as a targeted economic diplomacy initiative with a substantial business and geo-economic footprint for Cyprus.

"Our goal is to further strengthen economic and investment relations between Cyprus and Kazakhstan, to create new channels of cooperation and to promote Cyprus as a reliable business and investment hub in the wider region," he added.

Through targeted B2B meetings and high-level contacts, he continued, "we seek to create tangible business synergies in areas of strategic importance such as technology, financial services and fintech , renewable energy, tourism, agritechnology and pharmaceuticals."

According to Roussounides, “Kazakhstan is a rapidly growing economy with significant prospects, while Cyprus can act as a natural gateway to the European Union for Central Asian businesses.” At the same time, he stressed, Cypriot businesses are gaining access to a large and strategically located market with growing investment interest.

"The CCCI continues to consistently strengthen the extroversion of the Cypriot economy, to open new markets for Cypriot businesses and to create the conditions for sustainable development, investments and international collaborations for the benefit of the Cypriot economy and well-intentioned entrepreneurship," the Secretary General of the CCCI concluded.
