Money is changing form, payments are becoming increasingly digital, and the global financial ecosystem is transforming at a rapid pace. From digital wallets and instant payments to stablecoins, CBDCs and new blockchain infrastructures, the next generation of financial services is shaping new transaction experiences, new business models and different expectations for consumers and organisations alike.
These changes are not merely technological. They affect the way banks, payment providers, fintechs and central banks operate, as well as the way societies understand the concept of money, access and trust in transactions.
Against this backdrop of transition, particular interest is expected to surround the presentation entitled “Money in Transition: Reshaping Payments for a Digital Generation”, to be delivered by George Karatzias, Executive Board Member of the Central Bank of Cyprus, as part of the Digital Assets and the Future of Finance Summit 2026.
His keynote address is expected to explore how digital technologies, new regulatory developments and the evolving needs of users are reshaping the payments ecosystem internationally. At the same time, it will highlight the role that supervisory authorities and financial organisations are called upon to play in maintaining stability, security and trust in the new digital environment.
George Karatzias was appointed Executive Member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus in May 2024. He previously served as Vice Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, CySEC, and has extensive experience in investment services, funds and financial markets. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association, CIFA, as well as Vice Chairman of the Fund Administrators Committee of the association.
The Digital Assets and the Future of Finance Summit 2026 will take place on 7 July 2026 at City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol. The summit will bring together regulators, fintechs, banks, payment institutions, crypto-asset service providers, institutional investors and decision makers who are shaping the future of digital finance.
The summit will examine the most important developments in digital assets, tokenisation, stablecoins, CBDCs, MiCA, digital identity, blockchain infrastructure, AI, regtech and the new financial infrastructures already impacting the global economy.
