President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, has arrived in New Delhi for a State visit and is expected to meet on Friday with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
The President was welcomed at the airport by India’s Minister of Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.
The President exited the aircraft wearing the traditional vest that had been gifted to him by Prime Minister Modi.
During the official welcome ceremony at the airport, the national anthems of Cyprus and India were played by a military band, while the President walked along the red carpet and inspected a Guard of Honour.
On Friday morning, President Christodoulides will meet with India’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
He will then visit Raj Ghat, the memorial of Gandhi, where he will lay a wreath.
Afterwards, he will hold a private meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House. Expanded talks will follow, and the two leaders will then make statements.
Modi and Christodoulides are expected to sign a Joint Declaration, while a series of Memoranda of Understanding are also expected to be signed in areas such as defence and security, education, and culture.
In the evening, President Christodoulides will visit the Presidential Palace, where President, Droupadi Murmu, will host an official dinner in his honour. Earlier, the two heads of state will hold private and expanded consultations before making statements.
