IBM Technology Lead for Cyprus and Malta, Menikos Mavrommatis, stated that artificial intelligence should now be approached as a unified, interconnected operating system.
Speaking at the IBM Technology Summit Cyprus: Accelerating AI, Hybrid Cloud & Automation Together, organised by IMH, he delivered an opening address titled “IBM for the technology needs of business,” highlighting the role of technology in modern business strategy and the need for organizations to become more flexible, efficient, and resilient.
As he noted, “only 26% of companies have managed to implement generative AI projects in production environments, while just 5% of organizations fully succeed in AI implementation.” The transition from pilot programs to real-world production requires the strategic integration of data, automation, and hybrid infrastructures.
He also referred to IBM’s major technology announcements for 2026, highlighting the general availability of IBM Bob, an enterprise-ready development partner with built-in security and governance, as well as IBM Sovereign Core for a comprehensive and compliant approach to digital sovereignty. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of hybrid cloud, which is key to scaling generative AI and delivers three times greater return on investment, as well as the need for effective information management, given that 90% of business data remains unused in unstructured form.
In conclusion, he stressed that “the era of quantum computing has already begun, with IBM leading developments toward achieving quantum advantage by 2026.” Closing his speech, he posed a critical question to the Cypriot business community: “Are you ready?”
