Compliance failures are not always the result of weak systems, inadequate controls, or regulatory deficiencies. More often, they stem from human behavior — from individuals who understand the risks, recognize the right course of action, yet choose to remain silent, overlook misconduct, rationalize unethical practices, or allow inappropriate decisions to persist.
At a time when regulatory frameworks are becoming increasingly sophisticated, supervisory expectations more demanding, and monitoring technologies more advanced, one critical question continues to challenge organizations worldwide: why do good people enable bad decisions?
This timely and thought-provoking issue will be explored during the keynote presentation, “Power, Pressure and Permission: Why Good People Enable Corruption,” to be delivered by Marie Lundberg, CEO and Founder of Acronym Consulting AB, at the 12th International Compliance Forum, presented by ECOMMBX.
Drawing on more than three decades of international experience in the financial services sector and extensive expertise in Anti-Financial Crime, Marie Lundberg will examine corruption not solely as a legal or regulatory concern, but as a consequence of organizational culture, power dynamics, behavioral psychology, and institutional tolerance.
Her presentation will explore how pressure, hierarchy, familiarity with risk, and the gradual normalization of problematic behavior can create environments in which even individuals with strong ethical values may ultimately tolerate, facilitate, or legitimize conduct they would otherwise reject.
Marie Lundberg is the founder of Acronym Consulting AB, an independent consultancy specializing in Anti-Financial Crime and independent auditing services. She is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) accredited by ACAMS and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), with extensive professional experience across Europe, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavia. Her work combines deep regulatory expertise with a strong emphasis on data analytics, behavioral risk assessment, and the operational realities faced by modern organizations.
Her keynote is expected to provide valuable insight into one of the most critical — yet often overlooked — dimensions of compliance: not only why organizations fail, but why the people within them sometimes allow failure to occur.
A Premier Gathering for the Compliance Community
