The Deputy Ministry of Shipping has hosted a high-level ministerial stakeholders conference on seafarers in Limassol, in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, with the participation of representatives of the shipping industry.
According to an official announcement from the Deputy Ministry, the conference was attended, among others, by the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece, Vassilis Kikilias, as well as the MEP and Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament, Elissavet Vozemberg-Vrionidi. Also present were senior officials, key stakeholders and prominent figures from regional and international shipping organisations, as well as representatives of the global shipping industry.
Under the theme 'Investing in Seafarers: Securing the Future of Global Shipping', the conference focused on the education and training of seafarers, ways to attract and retain talent in the maritime industry, as well as initiatives to raise awareness and promote seafaring and maritime professions.
During the event, Shipping Deputy Minister, Marina Hadjimanolis, presented, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, an award of recognition to Captain Panagiotis Tsakos for his significant contribution to the promotion of the maritime sector at an international level, as well as for his timeless work in cultivating knowledge, strengthening values and creating opportunities for those serving at sea.
