The economic and political ties between Greece and Cyprus have been strong throughout history and this, in the current environment, where uncertainty has become the new normal, is even more important, underlined President of the Executive Committee and Vice Chair of the Board of SEV Hellenic Federation of Enterprises, Rania Ekaterinari, has said, emphasising that Greece and Cyprus stand together in the face of every challenge.
Speaking in the context of the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) Annual General Meeting, she stressed that SEV and OEB have emphatically highlighted that businesses throughout the European Union operate in a difficult and inflexible regulatory environment that affects their competitiveness.
Referring to the close cooperation within the framework of BusinessEurope to formulate appropriate policies and solutions to all critical issues of entrepreneurship, sending letters as SEV and OEB to the political leadership, Ekaterinari explained that emphasis is placed on five priorities.
Among them, the deepening of the single market in order to reduce barriers to goods and services which, according to the International Monetary Fund, correspond to internal tariffs of 110% and 45% respectively, the reduction of dependencies and the expansion of trade opportunities, welcoming the ambitious strategy of the European Commission to conclude agreements with Mercosur, India, Indonesia and Australia, the intensification of the effort to reduce bureaucracy and the regulatory burden, the strengthening of - private and public - investments, and innovation , and competitive and predictable energy prices which unfortunately still remain a challenge.
Stressing that the cooperation between Greece and Cyprus is close at the economic level as well, he pointed out that SEV and OEB have emphatically highlighted that businesses throughout the European Union operate in a difficult and inflexible regulatory environment that affects their competitiveness.
