Hybrids account for more than half of all new cars registered in Cyprus

Hybrid cars account for over 50% of the market, with their share in the first quarter of 2026 reaching 50.3% from 42.9% in the corresponding period last year, while the share of electric vehicles remained stable at 4.9%.

More specifically, of the 10,627 registrations of passenger saloon cars in the period January - March 2026, 5,342 concerned hybrid cars.

On the other hand, the share of petrol-powered saloon cars fell to 36% compared to 43.2% in the same period in 2025, while the share of diesel cars decreased marginally to 8.8% from 9%.

Top hybrid brands (total)

Hybrid registrations continue to occupy the largest segment of the saloon car market, with their percentage standing at 50.3% in the first three months of 2026, with 5,342 registrations, of which 2,045 were new and 3,297 were used.

Of the 5,342 hybrid saloon car registrations, 4,956 were private cars.

Mercedes ranks third (247), BMW in fourth (223), while Honda (221) completes the top five.

The relevant list also includes the brands Mazda (167), Lexus (164), Volvo (164), Hyundai (140) and Renault (118).

The top hybrid brands (new)

At the top of new hybrid sedans in the period January – March 2026 is Toyota (248), followed by Nissan (238), Mercedes (161), BMW (134) and Hyundai (129).

The relevant list also includes Renault (114), Jeep (108), Land Rover (80), BYD (70) and Dacia (67).

The top electric brands

The share of electric saloon cars in the first quarter of 2026 remains at 4.9%, with 521 registrations, of which 425 were new and 96 were used. Of these, 507 registrations were private vehicles.

BYD holds the lead in the overall electric vehicle market, with 138 registrations, followed by brands such as Kia (61), BMW (32), Mercedes (30) and Hyundai (26).
