Cyprus records lowest inflation in euro area in March

Annual inflation in the euro area reached 2.6% in March 2026, according to the latest data from Eurostat, with Cyprus among the countries recording the lowest rates at 1.5%.

Annual inflation in the euro area increased in March 2026, reaching 2.6% compared to 1.9% in February, confirming an upward trend in prices across Europe. At the European Union level, inflation rose to 2.8%, also higher than the previous month.

According to the data, the main contributors to the increase (1.49 percentage points) were services, energy, as well as food, alcohol and tobacco. These increases had a broad impact on the cost of living, intensifying inflationary pressures in many countries.

However, significant differences were recorded among Member States. Denmark posted the lowest annual rate at 1.0%, while Czechia, Cyprus and Sweden followed with 1.5%. In contrast, the highest inflation levels were recorded in Romania at 9.0%, Croatia at 4.6% and Lithuania at 4.4%.

Compared with February 2026, inflation rose in 23 Member States, remained stable in one and decreased in three, highlighting the widespread upward trend in prices across Europe.
