The number of job vacancies continues to steadily increase, reaching 13,538 in the fourth quarter of 2025. Job vacancies increased by 541 positions or 4.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024 (12,997), although they decreased by 1,035 positions or 7.1% compared to the third quarter of 2025 (14,573).
The highest vacancy rates at the end of 2025 are observed in the sectors of administrative and support activities (3.9%), wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (3.8%) and mining and quarrying (3.6%), while the lowest rate (0.6%) is recorded in the supply of electricity, natural gas, steam and air conditioning.
According to data from CySTAT, the percentage of vacancies in relation to total employees and vacant positions in the fourth quarter of 2025 was 2.8%, while in the third quarter of 2025 and the corresponding quarter of 2024 they were 3.0% and 2.8%, respectively.
The sectors with the most vacancies
In numbers, most job vacancies in the fourth quarter of 2025 are recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as they amounted to 3,076 compared to 2,479 in the corresponding quarter of 2024, recording an increase of 24.1%.
Next are vacancies in accommodation and food service activities (e.g. hotels and restaurants), which fell by 24.9% to 1,825 from 2,431 in the fourth quarter of 2024.
In professional, scientific and technical activities, job vacancies stood at 1,371 from 1,315, recording an increase of 4.3%.
A significant increase of 21.4% was observed in the fourth quarter of 2025 in construction vacancies, which amounted to 1,117 compared to 920 in the same period in 2024.
A slight decline of 7.8% was recorded in job vacancies in manufacturing, which stood at 946 compared to 1,026 at the end of 2024.
Vacancies in administrative and support activities increased by 68.3%, reaching 870 compared to 517, while in information and communication, vacancies rose to 818 from 750, recording an increase of 9.1%.
In the field of public administration and defence, mandatory social security, 683 job vacancies were recorded in the fourth quarter of last year, compared to 618 in the corresponding quarter of 2024, while the increase in vacancies in education was rapid (218.9%), as they skyrocketed to 625 from 196.
Vacancies in activities related to human health and care recorded a 30.8% decrease, reaching 609 compared to 880 in the last quarter of 2024.
In the transportation and storage sector, job vacancies rose to 408 compared to 360, recording an annual increase of 13.3%.
The sectors with the fewest vacancies
Just 11 vacancies were recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025 in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector, down from 2 in the corresponding period in 2024, while only 22 vacancies were in mines and quarries.
There were 82 job vacancies in water supply, sewage treatment, waste management and remediation activities, while 134 were the vacancies recorded in real estate management.
