President to announce targeted measures for all affected sectors of the economy

Targeted measures for all sectors of the economy affected by the war in the Middle East will be announced today, Thursday, 26 March, President Nikos Christodoulides has said.

Asked about the measures being prepared by the Government to address the energy crisis and rising cost of living, in remarks following a student parade in Nicosia, marking the 25 March, 1821 anniversary of the Greek revolution, the President said he would address the Cypriot people on Thursday to announce “specific, highly targeted measures affecting many sectors of the economy”.

“I am pleased because we have the ability, precisely due to our responsible fiscal policy, to announce new measures,” he added. He recalled that measures worth more than €100 million are already being implemented, noting, “I cannot imagine what our response would have been if we had not behaved responsibly on economic matters, if we had the fiscal conditions of 2012-2013”.

At the same time, he said, “because we are a responsible government, we have also prepared additional scenarios, in terms of measures, which, depending on how the situation evolves, will lead to further announcements.”

Asked whether today’s announcements would also include the tourism sector, he said that the measures cover all sectors that have been affected.
