The Ministry of Finance is working on various scenarios and measures that cover all possibilities in order to mitigate “any problems that may arise” as a result of economic impacts from the war in Iran, Finance Minister Makis Keravnoshas said, stressing that developments are being “closely monitored.”
“At this moment, the Ministry of Finance is processing scenarios and monitoring developments, and, depending on these developments and the time these crises will take, we are preparing some plans to mitigate any problems that may arise,” Keravnos said, when asked whether the Ministry is preparing measures to support businesses and households from potential economic impacts arising from the war in Iran. He was speaking following a meeting with EDEK President Nikos Anastasiou, in Nicosia on Friday, 20 March.
Asked whether the measures include a reduction in fuel taxes, Keravnos said that “the measures have not yet been finalised, but we are working on various scenarios that include everything.”
“What will be implemented will be decided at the appropriate time,” he stressed.
Keravnos also said that “the Ministry of Finance continuously monitors developments, and has been doing so for more than two years, because now we have the war in Iran, but previously we had the war in our region, in Gaza.”
“We have been implementing measures against high prices over the past two to two and a half years, which we have recently renewed,” he concluded.
