Cyprus and India FMs discuss the Middle East, strategic partnership, and EU - India relations

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos held a meeting in Brussels on Sunday with his Indian counterpart Dr. S. Jaishankar with whom he discussed, among other things, the situation in the Middle East and "underlined that diplomacy and dialogue is the only sustainable path to de-escalation and stability."

During their 15 March meeting in Brussels, the two Ministers also discussed the Cyprus -India strategic partnership and the EU-India relations.

In a post on 'X', Kombos, who is in Brussels for the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, said that he held an "insightful exchange" with the Indian Minister, focusing on further steps of the Cyprus - India strategic partnership, in view also of the upcoming visit of President Christodoulides to India.

They also focused on the EU-India relations, "following the recent EU-India Summit and the successful conclusion of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement".

Furthermore, they had an exchange on "the profoundly concerning developments in the Middle East". 

"Underlined that diplomacy and dialogue is the only sustainable path to de-escalation and stability", Kombos said.

The Foreign Ministry has said in a press release that the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, developments in the Middle East, and issues concerning the Southern Neighbourhood of the European Union, are on the agenda of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting taking place on Monday in Brussels.

According to the press release, as part of the Council, the Foreign Ministers will have an informal working lunch with the Foreign Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar.

The Ministers will also exchange views on the European Security Strategy.

It is noted that on the sidelines of the FAC, the Foreign Affairs Minister will have bilateral meetings with his counterparts and other officials.
