Significant 5% rise in Industrial Turnover in Cyprus for 2025

The Cypriot industrial sector closed 2025 on a positive note, as the Industrial Turnover Index recorded a 4.9% increase in December compared to the same month in 2024, reaching 139.8 points (base 2021=100), according to data released by CySTAT.

For the full period from January to December 2025, the index showed an annual increase of 5.0% compared to 2024, confirming the sector’s resilience despite challenges in certain sub-sectors.

The main driver of this performance was the manufacturing sector, where the index surged to 146.8 points with a remarkable 7.1% year-on-year jump. Positive contributions also came from mining and quarrying, which rose by 6.0%. In contrast, declines were recorded in electricity supply (-3.8%) and water supply and materials recovery (-6.8%).

At the sub-sector level within manufacturing, particularly strong performances were seen in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (+42.8%), the wood industry and products of wood (excluding furniture) (+23.8%), and the manufacture of furniture, other manufacturing activities and repair/installation of machinery (+17.0%). The production of refined petroleum products, chemicals and pharmaceuticals increased by 11.6%. Positive results were also recorded in food-beverages-tobacco products (+6.7%), rubber and plastics (+9.4%), and basic metals and fabricated metal products (+6.5%).

On the other hand, a significant drop of 21.6% was observed in the manufacture of electronic, optical and electrical equipment, while smaller declines appeared in certain branches such as other non-metallic mineral products (-5.9%).

Regarding the distinction between domestic and export markets, domestic turnover rose by 4.4% in December and 5.1% for the full year, while the export-oriented segment posted an even stronger monthly increase of 7.9% (annual 4.6%).
