With the aim of enhancing the institutional role of Boards of Directors and strengthening corporate governance standards in Cyprus, the official launch of the Cyprus Institute of Directors & Corporate Governance (CyIoDCG) will take place on Monday, 9 March 2026.
The newly established professional body aspires to become a point of reference for excellence in directorship and modern corporate governance in Cyprus.
The event will be held from 15:00 to 17:30 at the Auditorium of the Bank of Cyprus Corporate Headquarters in Nicosia. The keynote speaker will be Professor Ludo Van der Heyden, Chaired Professor Emeritus in Corporate Governance at INSEAD and Distinguished Scholar at IMD.
Why Governance matters always
In his address titled “Why Governance Matters Always. The Role of Directors”, Professor Van der Heyden will analyse the role of corporate governance in both times of growth and periods of crisis, highlighting the importance of governance culture, values and ethical leadership. He will focus on the distinction between governance and execution, as well as on the evolving role of Boards of Directors within an increasingly complex and rapidly changing international environment.
Drawing on experience from the United States, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Ukraine and other European countries, he will underline the importance of integrity, independence of judgement and courage in addressing complex strategic dilemmas.
The Mission of CyIoDCG
CyIoDCG was founded with the vision of becoming the institutional reference body for effective and modern Boards of Directors in Cyprus, promoting principles such as integrity, accountability, independence of judgement, professional excellence and continuous development.
During the event, the Institute’s vision and strategic direction will be presented, along with its Directors’ Certification & Development Programme, which aims to strengthen the skills, strategic judgement and institutional competence of board members and senior executives.
CyIoDCG is accepting membership applications from experienced Directors and senior executives of listed, regulated and private organisations, as well as state-owned entities and public institutions.
The Founding Board of Directors comprises distinguished professionals with significant experience in the business and institutional landscape, including Chairman Kyriacos Kokkinos, Vice-Chairwoman Demetra Kalogerou and Honorary Chairman Evdokimos Xenophontos, together with prominent members of the Cypriot business community.
