A message of cooperation and prospects between Cyprus and India was sent by the Minister of Energy, Michael Damianos, underlining that "the EU-India free trade agreement creates clear paths for cooperation, facilitates our companies to grow, strengthens resilience and creates new opportunities on both sides."
Damianos stressed that “Cyprus is strategically positioned to play a constructive role, as distribution businesses and shipping companies can direct European products to India under improved trade conditions,” adding that “Indian companies can choose Cyprus as a base for after-sales support, distribution and support throughout Europe.”
He also noted that the Cyprus shipping sector is ready to collaborate with Indian partners and European entities, developing efficient and reliable trade routes. Regarding green innovative technologies, he stressed that the agreement provides additional opportunities for cooperation between universities, innovative businesses and technology companies in clean energy, network upgrades, maritime decarbonisation and agricultural technology.
The Minister underlined that "free trade agreements are not only political tools, but practical means for creating new business opportunities, strengthening our services and positioning Cyprus as a reliable bridge between Europe and dynamic markets such as India."
The Minister's statements were made in the context of the India–Cyprus Business & Investment Summit 2026 organised by the High Commission of India in Cyprus.
