Alert called off at Pafos Airport following evacuation after sighting of "suspicious flying object" and subsequent interception of two drones

The alert at Pafos Airport has been called off, according an official announcement.

Pafos Airport as well as the nearby communities of Timi, Mandria and Anarita had been evacuated, following sightings of a suspicious flying object, thought to be a drone, above the airport.

The Government Spokesman has reported that two unmanned drones heading for the British Bases at Akrotiri have been intercepted. 

More specifically, two unmanned aerial vehicles heading towards the British Bases in Akrotiri were intercepted, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said in a post on X.

According to the spokesperson’s post, at 13.10pm on Monday, two unmanned aerial vehicles moving in the direction of the British Bases in Akrotiri were intercepted "in a timely manner".

Earlier, at around midday, sirens sounded in the Akrotiri area and, according to reports, military aircraft were seen taking off.

The British Bases are also understood to be being evacuated with reports of sirens being heard at Akrotiri.
