The General Affairs Council set to take place in Nicosia, today Monday and Tuesday, 2-3 March, has been postponed due to flight cancellations.
A representative of the Cyprus Presidency in Brussels announced that due to the impact on the flight schedule to and from Cyprus, following the incident in Akrotiri, the Council was postponed.
"In the early morning hours, we had a single, isolated incident of a UAV (drone) that targeted the British base in Akrotiri, Cyprus, with some limited damage. The exact origin of the UAV is currently under verification, but it has been confirmed that the Republic was not the target of an attack," the Cyprus Presidency spokesperson said.
"Given this unanticipated development which has unfortunately impacted today’s flights to Cyprus, the Cyprus Presidency has decided to postpone the informal GAC to a later date," the statement concludes.
