The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, is in Rome for an official visit on Thursday and Friday, 26 and 27 February, with Cyprus–Italy bilateral relations, regional developments, the Cyprus issue and the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU featuring on the agenda of his meetings.
According to a statement by the Presidency, the official visit is taking place at the invitation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, in reciprocity for his visit to Cyprus in February 2024, the first-ever visit by an Italian head of state to the Republic of Cyprus.
As noted, President Christodoulides will depart for Rome on Thursday morning and, at 4.30pm (Cyprus time), will meet with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, after which the two leaders will make statements to the media.
On Friday, he will go to the Quirinal Palace, where he will be officially received by President Mattarella. A meeting and working lunch hosted by the Italian President in honour of President Christodoulides and the Cypriot delegation will follow, with the participation of Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos.
Later that afternoon, Presidents Christodoulides and Mattarella will inaugurate the archaeological exhibition entitled “Cyprus and Italy: A Shared Cultural Identity from the Dawn of History” at the Castel Sant’Angelo Museum.
During his stay in Rome, the President of the Republic will also hold a working meeting with Eni Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi, as the company is active in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, the statement concludes.
