Milk and Halloumi exports continuing as normal, President says on FMD crisis

Exports of manufactured products, particularly milk and Halloumi cheese, which is an important export product of the Republic of Cyprus, are continuing as normal, President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides has said, adding that the government will stand by all those affected by foot-and-mouth disease.

In statements made on his way to a meeting, in Nicosia, with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman, and asked how the government plans to handle the issue, the President of the Republic said that from the very beginning, in December, when the problem arose in the island's Turkish-occupied areas, specific measures were taken by the Veterinary Services.

He added that, based on the initial information he had received, it appeared that there had been possible illegal activities, which had led to the very difficult situation we are facing today.

"As a government, we will stand by all those affected in every way. I want to make that clear. We will stand by the side of all those affected," he further noted.

He added that, in the midst of this situation, exports of manufactured products, particularly milk and Halloumi cheese, which is an important export product of the Republic of Cyprus, are continuing as normal, without any problems or restrictions.
