Prominent Cypriot businessman Constantinos Shiacolas has died

The President and the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) and the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) have expressed their deep sorrow for the loss of the Cypriot businessman Constantinos Shiacolas, who died on 15 February.

In a post by the Chamber on X, the CCCI stated that "the President, the Board of Directors and the staff of the CCCI express their deep sadness for the loss of the distinguished Cypriot businessman Constantinos Shiacolas, who left an indelible mark in the field of construction, investment and in general in Cypriot business."

The CCCI expressed its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

In its statement, OEB also expressed its sadness over the death of the pioneering Cypriot businessman, noting that he had been recognised for decades in the broader construction sector as one of the country's most distinguished businessmen with international recognition and respect.

In a statement, OEB expresses its sincere condolences to his family and especially to his children Nicolas, Menelaos and Elli.

Born into a family with a strong presence in the construction sector, he studied civil engineering and from an early age connected his scientific training with business practice. His professional path was identified with the Ioannou & Paraskevaides group (J&P Overseas), where he served for more than 49 years and was also a member of the Board of Directors.

In 1977, he was appointed country manager in Saudi Arabia, recording an impressive increase in revenues to $1.4 billion by 1992. In the same year, he took over as general manager, while in 2000 he became executive director and managing director of the group, contributing decisively to the transformation of the Cypriot company into an international contracting giant with activity on four continents. He often emphasiσed that success was based on consistency, trust with partners and the development of close relationships with the countries where he operated, especially in the Arab world.

At the same time, he maintained a strong business presence outside of construction. His business philosophy was also transferred to his children, Nicolas and Menelaos Shiacolas, creators and shareholders of Cablenet. He was also involved in the development of the integrated casino resort in Limassol, through the company Cyprus Phasouri (Zakaki) Ltd, as well as investments in the hotel sector, including in Porto Heli in the Peloponnese.

For his overall contribution, Shiacolas was honored at the 2nd KEBE Business Leader Awards in 2015, organised by the CCCI and the IMH, where he received an honorary distinction for his contribution to the development of Cypriot entrepreneurship, confirming his position among the most important personalities in the country's economic life.

Constantinos Shiacolas remained until the end a man who believed in work, in the international perspective of Cypriot businesses and in the importance of the experience of the elders for the new generation. His loss marks the closing of an important chapter for Cypriot business.
