A total of 17 bounced cheques, worth €47,091, were recorded in the first month of 2026, according to data published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) regarding entries in the preliminary list of the Central Information Registry (CIR) for issuers of bounced cheques.
For the whole of 2025, 213 bounced cheques with a total value of €630,249 were entered in the CIR’s preliminary list, while in January 2025 a total of 16 cheques worth €42,062 were recorded.
According to the CBC data, the total number of individuals and legal entities entered in January 2026 in the CIR’s preliminary list stood at 13, of whom nine were legal entities and four were natural persons.
Moreover, the CBC said that the total number of persons entered in the CIR in January 2026 stood at 10, of whom five were legal entities and five were natural persons controlling legal entities. No natural person was entered.
It is noted that in January 2025, a total of six persons were entered in the CIR, of whom two were legal entities, two were natural persons controlling legal entities, and two were natural persons.
