The scientific documentary 'Troodos Rising to the Stars' has won its first award after participating in the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival, where it was honored with the Best VFX award.
According to a press release, the film is a scientific documentary that narrates the story of Troodos—from its emergence from the sea to its modern-day connection with Astronomy and the Universe. Through impressive footage shot in Cyprus across various locations of the Troodos Geopark, specialized visual effects created by an international company, and solid scientific documentation, the work connects geology with astronomical observation, offering viewers a unique experience of knowledge and imagery.
The musical score includes original music composed specifically for the film, as well as opera pieces.
The production of the documentary was funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) through the CARES program, which was implemented in Cyprus in 2025.
The documentary is directed by Stelios Tryfon, while its creation was undertaken by Theofanis Matsopoulos, a globally renowned creator of planetarium films.
“Troodos Rising to the Stars” is screened daily at the Troodos Observatory, giving the public the opportunity to discover the history and significance of Troodos through a contemporary scientific perspective.
