AEGEAN's Dona Sparsi on how the airline is making strengthening its presence in Cyprus a priority (video)

AEGEAN 's commitment to Cyprus remains clear and timeless, the airline's Larnaka Airport Station Manager in the country, Dona Sparsi assures, underlining that the airline is steadily strengthening its presence on the island, investing in its base in Larnaca to better serve passengers and expanding direct connections to key destinations in Greece and Europe.

In a video interview for Hermes Airports' online newsletter, Flight Mode, Sparsi talks about the airline's development since its establishment in 1999 and explains how AEGEAN's presence in Cyprus has grown since its presence on the island began in 2004.

Among other things, she also discusses what sets the airline apart while also revealing that, from April 2026, AEGEAN's direct route to Rome will resume, with up to three flights per week.

The video interview, in Greek, can be watched below, followed by a transcript translated into English.

Tell us a few words about AEGEAN.

Since our founding in 1999, when we started with just two aircraft, AEGEAN has come a long way. Today, 26 years later, we are the largest airline in Greece and one of the most successful regional carriers in Europe.

We are a solid choice for Greek, Cypriot and international travellers and all of us at AEGEAN work daily with a common goal: to offer our passengers authentic Greek hospitality, bringing Greek culture to 47 countries and welcoming millions of visitors to Greece every year with a warm smile.

What differentiates AEGEAN and ranks it first in the preferences of the Cypriot passenger public?

For AEGEAN, a priority has been and remains to offer a quality and reliable travel experience, with the passenger always at the centre. We see this in Cyprus as well, where for years our passengers have trusted us and consistently chosen us for their travels.

Our presence at 'Glafkos Clerides' Larnaka Airport began in 2004, with the first route from Athens. Since then, our station has been continuously growing and is now one of the most important bases of AEGEAN, with three aircraft and 40 employees. To date, we have transported over 14 million passengers between Cyprus and Greece, something that makes us particularly proud.

For all of us working at AEGEAN in Larnaca, the goal is common: to make our passengers' journey as easy and enjoyable as possible, from booking to boarding.

That is why at Larnaca station we have a fully organised station with a service desk, where our colleagues are next to the passengers every day, not only for their tickets but also for anything they may need regarding their flight. At the same time, in addition to the operation of the check-in counters, we also offer special counters for families with young children, as well as for business and gold members of the Miles+Bonus programme.

For those who want to save time, there are also Self Check-in kiosks, where, in a few simple steps, they can check-in themselves, issue a boarding pass and drop off their luggage.

And of course, I cannot fail to mention our new Business Lounge, which opened a year ago and has already become a reference point at the airport, offering a modern and comfortable space for our passengers before their flight.

AEGEAN is one of the main users of the airport, offering the largest network of destinations to and from 'Glafkos Clerides' airport throughout the year. With direct scheduled and charter flights, as well as through its hubs in Athens and Thessaloniki, it contributes substantially to the stable connection of the island.

Specifically, direct flights are operated to Athens with up to seven daily routes, Thessaloniki with up to seven flights per week, Heraklion with two weekly flights, Tel Aviv with up to eight weekly flights and Brussels with three flights per week. At the same time, from April 2026, the direct route to Rome will resume, with up to three flights per week.

For Cyprus, our commitment is clear and timeless. We are steadily strengthening our presence on the island, investing in our base in Larnaca and continuously expanding direct and indirect connections to key destinations in Greece and Europe.
