Unemployment stable in Cyprus in December 2025, according to Eurostat

The unemployment situation in Cyprus remained stable, according to the latest data released today by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).

More specifically, the unemployment rate in December 2025 stood at 4.3%, unchanged compared with November. As regards unemployment by gender, the rate for women amounted to 4.1%, while for men it reached 4.4%.

In absolute terms, this corresponds to approximately 23,000 unemployed persons.

At the same time, youth unemployment among those under 25 years of age stood at 12.9% over the same period, also unchanged compared with November 2025.

Unemployment in the EU and the eurozone

According to Eurostat, the unemployment rate in the euro area was 6.2% in December 2025, down from 6.3% in the previous month and also from 6.3% in December 2024. Across the EU Member States as a whole, the unemployment rate stood at 5.9% in December 2025, remaining stable compared with both November 2025 and December 2024.

Eurostat estimates that 13.043 million people in the EU, of whom 10.792 million were in the euro area, were unemployed in December 2025. Compared with November 2025, unemployment decreased by 94 thousand in the EU and by 61 thousand in the euro area. Compared with December 2024, unemployment increased by 71 thousand in the EU and decreased by 5 thousand in the euro area.

Youth unemployment

In December 2025, 2.857 million young people under the age of 25 were unemployed in the EU, of whom 2.257 million were in the euro area. During the same month, the youth unemployment rate stood at 14.7% in the EU, down by 0.2 percentage points compared with the previous month, and at 14.3% in the euro area, also down by 0.1 percentage points compared with November 2025.

Compared with November 2025, youth unemployment decreased by 16 thousand in the EU and by 12 thousand in the euro area. Compared with December 2024, youth unemployment declined by 18 thousand in the EU and by 31 thousand in the euro area.

Unemployment by gender

As reported by Eurostat, in December 2025 the unemployment rate for women in the EU was 6.0%, down by 0.1 percentage points compared with November, while the unemployment rate for men stood at 5.8%, remaining stable compared with the previous month. In the euro area, the unemployment rate for women was 6.4% and for men 6.1%, with both rates remaining unchanged compared with the previous month.
