Constantinos Herodotou shortlisted for European Banking Authority chairmanship

Former Central Bank of Cyprus Governor Constantinos Herodotou is one of just two professionals still in the running for the prestigious position of European Banking Authority (EBA) Chairman, with an announcement on potentially being made as early as this month. 

The other candidate is Francois-Louis Michaud, a French national who currently serves as executive director of the EBA, which is an EU regulatory authority.

Herodotou is currently Chairman of the Board of Greece's CrediaBank, previously known as Attica Bank.

Herodotou was the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) from April 2019 to April 2025 and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank over the same period. 

He also served as an Executive Director at the CBC’s Board of Directors (2017-2019) and held the position of the Commissioner of Privatisations of the Republic of Cyprus  from 2014-2017.

Before moving to Cyprus in 2014, most of Herodotou's career was in investment banking at UBS Investment Bank in London, where he rose through the ranks to head two sectors concurrently: Shipping for Europe, Middle East and Africa and simultaneously Infrastructure & Concessions Advisory / Project Finance for Central & Eastern Europe.

He has advised governments and global conglomerates on major financial transactions and strategy, totaling a value of over €50 billion. His experience includes, among other things, structuring and heading complex negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, project concessions, listing companies on stock exchanges (NASDAQ and NYSE), structuring and raising equity and debt, corporate and financial restructurings and project finance.

Constantinos Herodotou holds an MBA from London Business  School and a BSc in Economics from University College London.
