Deputy Minister of Shipping concludes three-day working visit to London

Following Cyprus’ successful re-election to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at the end of November 2025, and in the context of promoting the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis paid a three-day working visit to London.

During her stay, Hadjimanolis held a series of important bilateral meetings, as well as contacts with key figures in international shipping.

Among others, she met with her British counterpart, Kier Mather, to whom she first presented the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The two deputy ministers then discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom, as well as progress in the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two countries.

The Deputy Minister of Shipping also met with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Domínguez. The meeting focused on “issues related to the Organization and the challenges facing global shipping.” At the same time, ways of strengthening cooperation between Cyprus and the IMO over the next six months were examined, in view of Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU, as the Deputy Minister of Shipping told CNA.

Special mention should also be made of the reception hosted by Hadjimanolis at the Cyprus High Commission in London, with guests from the international shipping community. The purpose of the reception, as the Deputy Minister of Shipping stated to CNA, was “to thank all the member states of the International Maritime Organization which, in November, honoured Cyprus with their vote and re-elected it to the Council of the Organization, indeed in the particularly honourable 7th position.”

The Deputy Minister also held a series of meetings with representatives of shipping companies, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and further promoting the Cypriot shipping register.

Finally, during her stay in London, Hadjimanolis gave a wide-ranging interview to London Greek Radio (LGR), with the main objective of strengthening ties with the Greek Cypriot community in London and promoting Cypriot shipping.
