The car brands buyers in Cyprus preferred in 2025

The number of saloon passenger car registrations last year surpassed the 40,000-mark, with the car market closing the year on a positive note.

According to data from CySTAT, the number of registrations of passenger saloon cars increased by 6.2% in 2025 and reached 40,778, compared to 38,410 in 2024.

Used cars hold the majority, with their registrations accounting for 64.1% of the market (26,145), while new cars accounted for 35.9%, with 14,633 registrations.

Hybrid cars are expanding their momentum within the market, with their share increasing to 44.3% in 2025 from 37.1% in 2024.

On the other hand, the share of petrol-powered saloon cars in the total of this category of vehicles fell in the period January - December 2025 to 42% compared to 48.6% in the corresponding period of 2024, as did the share of diesel cars, which decreased to 8.9% in 2025 compared to 10.3% in 2024.

The market penetration of electric cars remains low, although their share grew to 4.7% from 4% in 2024.

In 2025, passenger saloon car registrations increased by 6.2% and reached 40,778, of which 35,367 were private cars.

In the overall saloon market, Toyota maintains its lead by a wide margin, with 8,020 registrations. It is followed by Mazda, with 4,898, Nissan, with 3,716, BMW, with 2,369 while the top five is completed by Mercedes, which counts 2,076 registrations for 2025.

The remaining positions on the relevant list are occupied by Kia (1,817), Volkswagen (1,443), Honda (1,308), Hyundai (1,307) and Audi (897).

New saloon passenger cars

The number of registrations of new passenger saloon cars in 2025 amounted to 14,633, of which 13,085 were private cars, accounting for 35.9% of the market.

Kia is at the top, with 1,730 registrations, followed by Toyota, with 1,211 registrations. Hyundai (1,183), Nissan (1,155) and Volkswagen (1,139) are further down the list.

The list of new passenger car registrations for 2025 includes brands such as BMW (711), Mercedes (658), Renault (615), Jeep (588) and Audi (509).

Used cars account for 64.1% of the saloon market, with their registrations reaching 26,145, of which 22,282 concerned private cars.

Toyota continues to hold the top spot, with 6,809 registrations, with Mazda coming in second with 4,830 registrations. Nissan (2,021) and BMW (1,658) follow, while Mercedes (1,418) complete the top five.

The used car list also includes popular brands, including Honda (1,183), Land Rover (528), Suzuki (406), Audi (388) and Volvo (354).
