Cyprus Honorary Consular Corps expresses readiness for EU Presidency

The Honorary Consular Corps of Cyprus has expressed its readiness to support Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, during the first half of 2026.

According to a press release, members of the Corps were, on 19 December, briefed on preparations for the Presidency. The event featured a keynote address by Ambassador Charis Christodoulides, Secretary General for European Affairs, while Demetries Demetriou, Head of the Cyprus Presidency Team at the Secretariat for European Affairs, also took part.

The Honorary Consular Corps was described as a vital link between the Republic of Cyprus and the countries it represents, particularly those without resident embassies on the island. Honorary Consuls were highlighted as key actors, often serving as the first point of contact between Cyprus and foreign citizens and institutions, it said.

Speakers emphasised that the EU Presidency is not merely an institutional obligation, but a national opportunity for Cyprus to articulate its vision, promote its priorities, and strengthen cooperation with both European partners and third countries, it also said.
