Cyprus-Serbia Defence Ministers to sign "important milestone" Status of Forces Agreement

The Defence Ministries of Cyprus and Serbia will sign a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) today, 10 December, during an official visit to the island by Serbian Defence Minister Bratislav Gašić, the ministry said in a press release.

Gašić will be received by Cypriot counterpart Vasilis Palmas in the morning.

According to the announcement, the two Ministers the signing of the SOFA is "an important milestone in the further upgrading of institutional cooperation between the two countries in the fields of defence and security".

During the talks, Palmas and Gašić will review existing bilateral cooperation and discuss ways to improve it, both at the operational level and in the areas of equipment and training.

They will also exchange views on Serbia-EU relations and the EU in view of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as on current international and regional developments in the Western Balkans, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Middle East.
