Finance Minister Makis Keravnos expressed his appreciation for China's support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus at the farewell ceremony for Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Liu Yantao. He also said that bilateral relations are developing, while trade and investment between the two countries are expanding.
"We especially value China’s stance on the Cyprus issue, including its role as a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council, in support of our efforts to resume negotiations for a viable and lasting settlement, based on the agreed UN framework," Keravnos said in a speech at the 26 November event held at a Nicosia hotel.
He also noted that although much remains to be done to ensure lasting peace worldwide, both the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Cyprus support and uphold the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Furthermore, the Minister of Finance expressed his conviction that in the coming years, the Republic of Cyprus and the People's Republic of China will further consolidate their cooperation, elevating their partnership to ever greater heights.
He also said that "our bilateral relations have been growing rapidly," while trade and investment are expanding, creating new opportunities for businesses and jobs.
In addition, the Finance Minister said that during his tenure in Cyprus, Ambassador Liu worked tirelessly to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, adding that "these efforts have laid strong foundations for the future."
