Security and preparedness are critical pillars for the long-term sustainability of tourism. In today’s global environment, the importance of proactive measures and protective security has never been greater.
Tourist destinations worldwide are prioritising investments in education, advanced technologies, and robust public–private partnerships to create safe and resilient environments for visitors, businesses, and employees. These efforts not only safeguard lives but also strengthen trust, ensuring that tourism remains a driver of economic growth and cultural exchange.
A high-level discussion on strengthening the security and resilience of Cyprus’s tourism sector will take place at the “Safeguarding Cyprus’s Tourism Industry Conference” on Wednesday, 26 November, at City of Dreams Mediterranean. The event, held under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and organised by the British High Commission, will bring together key stakeholders to explore strategies for ensuring a safe and sustainable future for Cyprus as a leading destination.
The conference will spotlight key priorities, including strategic planning and preparedness, strengthening public–private partnerships, and expanding education and training opportunities within the tourism sector. Participants will explore how robust preparedness measures can enhance resilience and enable the industry to effectively withstand potential threats and crises.
Through case studies, the event will showcase successful implementations of Counter Terrorism Awareness training in hotel establishments, demonstrating its benefits for safety, preparedness, and operational resilience.
A highlight of the program will be the roundtable discussion, which promises to generate valuable insights on how to reinforce the sector’s resilience against unforeseen threats and how collaboration between organisations, businesses, and authorities can serve as the foundation for a safer and more sustainable future.
The conference will conclude with a presentation of the “Ask for Angela” program, an international initiative implemented in public and entertainment venues that promotes discreet assistance for individuals who feel unsafe or threatened. The program will be showcased as an example of social awareness and practical safety, and has recently been adopted in Cyprus to strengthen the sense of trust and protection within hospitality spaces.
